We have six prints from this series of which this is one numbered V. It clearly comes from a book, but the origin is unknown. The print has only the date 1955 penciled on the back. It's interesting how Munsey Magazine had a HUGE circulation and yet it's less well known than Century, Harper's and Frank Leslie's. I just got six issues though so am happy as a clam. Before I tell you about this one though here's a fun fact about Munsey -- it was considered a bit racy and some stores would not stock it due to its "undressed women and undressed statuary." This issue is clean and tightly bound, but as you can see, a previous owner trimmed off the overhang of the yapped edges-- a common reaction when they develop chips and tears. I have had these prints for years, but never listed them because the title is in Asian characters. I can't recall where I even got them, but they are quite handsome. There are supposed to be 16 black and white numbered prints, all portraits drawn with pencil, inside the folder and all are present. But here's the nice surprise -- nine other numbered prints in full color appear to have hitchhiked along. These apparently were at least a set of 10, but one is missing.
